The Sprint Speciale gained front disc brakes in 1963. By 1964, the Giulietta had essentially evolved into the 1,570-cc Giulia. The line was enormously successful for Alfa Romeo and by the time the last Giulia was built in 1979, more than 400,000 Giulietta and Giulas had been sold.

Alfa Romeo fitted a larger engine — a 1.6-liter inline-four (112 hp), changed the brakes from drums to discs at the front, and slightly revised the dashboard. Given this “new” car was more grown up than its older sibling, the name changed to Giulia Sprint Speciale.
